Espial® IPTV Launches Carrier-Grade Evo® Server

Evo IPTV Service Platform is the industry's first modular and open middleware

TelcoTV — Dallas, TX; November 6, 2006 - Espial ® IPTV, leading provider of IPTV middleware and applications, today announced the launch of Evo ® Server , a carrier-grade middleware platform for IPTV service management . Evo Server, together with Espial's market-leading Evo ® Client set-top box software, make up the industry's first modular and open IPTV middleware system— the Evo ® IPTV Service Platform . Evo is the only IPTV platform available that allows operators to purchase best-of-breed components separately or as part of a pre-integrated client-server middleware solution.

Espial's Evo Server is a massively scalable, continuously available and truly open IPTV management system. Developed from the ground up to optimize scalability, performance, and total cost of ownership, Evo Server breaks new ground by empowering service providers to deliver highly successful IPTV services. Evo Server includes support for the following IPTV applications:

•  Live TV Management

•  Video on Demand (VOD) Data Management

•  High Performance Electronic Program Guide (EPG)

•  Radio TV

•  Packaging and Pricing

•  Digital Video Recorder (DVR)

•  Advertising Server

•  Pay-Per-View (PPV)

“Evo Server continues the Espial commitment to modular and open IPTV architectures,” said Espial Founder and CEO Jaison Dolvane . “While it can be sold as part of a pre-integrated client-server IPTV middleware platform, we are committed to our existing customers and partners to integrate with whatever IPTV components they may have developed in-house or integrated from third parties.”

Evo Server manages the link to subscribers by delivering IPTV services from the head-end to the home. With a rich set of packaging, promotion and pricing options, operators can optimize the way their products are created and delivered. And with Evo Server's fault and performance monitoring system, operators have the tools they need to manage their IPTV service once it is delivered.

Evo Server's data-driven architecture eliminates the bottlenecks typically present in browser-based IPTV systems. With a cluster-based architecture for carrier-grade reliability and an IP-based multicast data carousel for efficient data distribution, Evo Server can scale to millions of subscribers without compromising performance or service quality. What's more, Evo Server is one of the only fully-redundant IPTV systems on the market, designed with no single points-of-failure, in-service upgrades, and hitless expansions and reconfigurations.

Evo Server's data-driven architecture also contributes to one of the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) metrics in the industry. Since it minimizes network and server utilization and reduces the processing and storage footprint on the set-top box, upwards of ten thousand subscribers per node can be supported. This TCO/performance ratio further drives down costs by reducing power consumption and hardware costs.

Evo Server offers all of these advantages while remaining a key part of the most open and modular IPTV middleware platform on the market. Not only can operators, partners, and integrators choose separate modular Evo components, they can also rapidly create new services, cost-effectively integrate third-party IPTV ecosystem products, and port to any set-top box or device that fits their business model.

"Espial's carrier-grade Evo Server introduction makes the Evo IPTV Service Platform a real alternative to the Microsoft IPTV middleware," said Dittberner Associates Research Director James Heath . "Most carriers are looking for the lowest cost per subscriber, both in terms of initial expenditures and ongoing operating costs, and Evo's scalability and efficiency meet these requirements. Together with Evo's novel architecture for enabling modularity and openness, I expect Espial to give competitors a run for their money."

“The launch of the Evo Server component of the Evo IPTV Service Platform concludes a year of testing, pilots, and carrier-grade deployments with global telcos,” said Rob Nadon, Espial Director of Product Management, Evo IPTV Service Platform. “Evo's data-driven architecture proved out to provide the scalability, performance, total cost of ownership, and open integration environment that has been sorely lacking in the IPTV industry until now.”

Espial's products are being deployed to over 500,000 IPTV subscribers and the company was recently named the #1 IPTV client middleware vendor by ABI Research. With key customers such as NTT, Belgacom, UPC, OnCommand, LodgeNet, Auroras and partners including Siemens/Myrio, Motorola, Sumitomo, Tilgin, Amino, Dasan, Thomson, and Philips, Espial's leadership in IPTV and consumer services spans over nine years. Over 2.5 million consumers have already experienced Espial technology, from hotel interactive TV and VOD services through OnCommand and LodgeNet, to interactive interfaces in BMW vehicles and Hitachi TVs, to leading deployments with Telcos in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

At TelcoTV, Espial is demonstrating the full Evo IPTV Service Platform, including Evo Server, at booth 1206. Other partners and customers, such as Auroras Entertainment (booth 1023), will also be demonstrating the full Evo IPTV Service Platform or modular components.
