Intel selects Espial Software as open platform for Web Tablet applications

February 26, 2001
OTTAWA, Canada - 26 February 2001: Espial, which creates software that powers the world of smart Internet devices, today announced that Intel has chosen Espial Escape for use in the Intel® Web Tablet.

Espial is providing the Java-based browser in the Intel Web tablet. The Espial platform, including Espial Espresso GUI components, allows developers to rapidly create branded, market-ready applications, based on open standards and the industry’s fastest, most feature-rich browser.

The Intel® Web Tablet enables users to access and navigate the Internet from anywhere in the home. The Intel Web Tablet communicates with the PC using the Intel® AnyPoint™ HomeRF Wireless Networking Technology allowing the user to move from room to room, while sharing the Internet connection with the home PC.

“By using Espial’s browser technology in the Intel Web Tablet, we are able to provide consumers a quality browsing experience anywhere in the home with this innovative new Internet device,” said Michael Reed, director of marketing, Internet Tablet Operation, Intel.

“Intel really understands the elements that make for success in wireless Internet devices,” said Jaison Dolvane, Espial president and CEO. “Combining a simple user interface with the power of the Escape browser provides devices with Internet browsing similar to that of the PC. By incorporating this interface with a wireless device, Espial and Intel are taking the browser experience further. The ease of use that comes about from an intuitive GUI is the value that Espial has added to the Intel Web Tablet.”
